What’s the best way to describe Nashville’s Midtown neighborhood? Well, chances are if you’re already familiar with this vibrant and bustling part of the city, you probably already know that there’s a strong chance you’ll get a completely different answer from every single person you ask. Full of corky restaurants, popular dive bars, and a vibrant food scene, Midtown in Nashville especially comes alive at night, making it a popular choice for home buyers who love a high-energy location with lots of things to see and do nearby. Midtown was also once considered a thriving business district, so you might also find plenty of different housing options available here that range from condos and townhouses to a fairly dense inventory of cute little cottages and bungalows.
For some home buyers pondering a move to Midtown, its location right next to Vanderbilt University is the real appeal. And because housing near a major university will almost always be in demand, any investment in a new home anywhere in Nashville’s Midtown will surely retain a high value, at least for the foreseeable future. Some soon-to-be home buyers also like the swanky new high-rises that are also located in the Midtown area, which include The Rhythm and Adelicia—two of Nashville’s most well-known residential towers. Midtown is home to one of Nashville's only cajun restaurants, the South Street Original Crab Shack, which has been a Nashville favorite for years- so much so that most locals know it only by 'South Street'. This restaurant is famous for its spicy, sizzling entrees, super-fresh seafood, mouth-watering barbecue, and large portions. But perhaps its biggest draw is its open upstairs pation, often referred to as the 'Treehouse', which makes it the perfect destination for a casual evening out on a warm summer night. And Midtown is peppered with bars which offer similarly unique draws. Other examples include the Row, Tavern, Broadway Brewhouse, and Bound'ry.
Bound’ry is one of Nashville’s most eclectic dining experiences, and is located just a few doors down from South Street. Bound'ry is unique in Midown, and offers upscale, world-class fare in a totally unique atmosphere often described as reminiscient of a Salvadore Dalí painting. But the dining opportunities don't end there- within the same two-block spread, one can have fresh fried chicken at Hattie B's, have breakfast for dinner or a New York-style reuben at Noshville, pick up gourmet cupcakes, or even stop in for fresh-roasted coffee at J&J's.
The Midtown area is one going through a swift and thorough revival, and residents can find many upscale offices and retailers. Salon FX, one of Nashville's premier salons, calls this area home, and many of Nashville's premier artists, printers, and photographers keep their studios in this area. Midtown is also very convenient, offering quick access to both Interstate loops through its major thoroughfare, and is bounded on almost every side by established, upscale neighborhoods.
Midtown of Nashville is home to a vast majority of restaurants and cafes, most locals would more likely recommend ‘South Street original Crab Shack And Authentic Dive Bar’ or just ‘South Street’ for short. It has a nice, inviting and laid back atmosphere, with roll-back glass doors for when it’s a hot day in summer and also a fireplace for a nice cozy meal in the winter, It is described as simply a ‘must’ for when you visit Nashville and it is now currently advertising for its latest addition called ‘The Tree House Oyster Bar’. If the locals suggestion doesn’t quite grab your attention there is always something else in this area. If you are an avid beer fan then maybe ‘The Broadway Brewhouse’ will catch your eyes, with a massive over 700 beers on tap available for you, it gets better, attached to the Brewhouse is also a Cajun restaurant called ‘Mojo Grill’. It boats a very affordable array of foods that is sure to get your taste buds singing.
As for shopping within the Midtown neighborhood itself, options are rather limited. However, there is a pretty funky art gallery which hosts weekly exhibits and is worth checking out whether or not you are an enthusiast. Midtown is usually a district of restaurants and nightclubs but it oddly has a couture design store called ‘Manuel’ for people that aren’t sure what couture means, its basically a very high end tailor that design exclusive clothing and even home decor to fit your needs. If you're interested in more general shopping opportunities, within a five mile radius there are grocery stores, traditional shopping centers, and boutique shops aplenty.
As for local schools within the Midtown area, there is a rather popular school called ‘The Gardener School’ if you are from Ohio or Illinois you would have probably heard of these schools, it is an academically focused preschool for children from 6 weeks to 5 years of age. Not too far away is the more well known Vanderbilt University not too far away from the area as well as Bethel University.
There is one park nearby Midtown area that is very popular and is painstakingly landscaped and cultivated by the city" ‘Centennial Park’. Many locals in the area use this park, people have even had their weddings here. It also gives you access to the Parthenon and allows you to take a tour of that area also. Many recreational events and activities are held here, and Centennial Park is home to Nashville's own Parthenon.
The distance between Downtown and Midtown Nashville is extremely short. No turns whatsoever, just follow the road from West End Avenue onto Broadway and you’re there. You would be better off walking the distance is so short. It is 1.14 miles to the Downtown area from Midtown. There are two ways to get to Nashville International Airport but the best way would be to go onto the Highway and follow the road. The alternative route is rather confusing as you would have to drive in the opposite direction for about 5 miles.
